When any or all of the three dimensions of communications are increased man achieves a jump in performance.

Gordon B. Thompson has proposed three dimensions by which the effectiveness of a communications system might be rated such as ease of access, size of information space and ease of discovery as follows:

  1. Ease of access to stored information
  2. The size of the information space shared simultaneously
  3. Ease of discovery and development of shared feelings (Thompson uses here the phrase ‘nascent consensus’)

When any or all of these dimensions are increased man achieves a jump in performance.

In the diagram, the telephone, book and television are plotted to suggest increases each of them yielded in each of the dimensions.

reference – authors bios’

43 authors are referenced by McCay in BEYOND MOTIVATION. In the Tydbyte Media Expanded Edition a short biography of each author has been included.

A brief synopsis of each publication is also included in the book.

I find it exciting to be able look at where the germs of McCay’s thoughts came from.
